This artwork is one of my "Beachcomber" series and is inspired by my childhood growing up on the South coast of England where I used to windsurf and sail with my Father. When I wasn't on the water I would always be beachcombing for shells, pebbles and driftwood which I've always collected.
I've made moulds of each individual shell, pebble and amonite and then cast them in marbled polymer clay. In the marbling process I've added gold leaf to give the impression of a rich vein of gold running through all the elements.
Each piece is fired (cooked) and then I've mounted them on tiny foam-board plinths to raise them up and allow light underneath as some of the polymer clay is translucent.
